  • Michigan 27 Iowa 14
    • A road victory in conference play is always a good thing, but it would’ve been nice if the Wolverines were a bit more dominant in this contest. J.J. McCarthy wasn’t great yesterday, rushing for -14 yards and fumbling the ball once. Michigan struggled with Maryland last week, but I think it’ll blow out Indiana next week.
    • Iowa’s defensive players have to be frustrated with the offensive unit. Spencer Petras and the passing game actually weren’t too bad in this contest, but every deficit feels like an uphill battle for the Hawkeyes.
  • Ole Miss 22 Kentucky 19
    • This game felt like it could be anyone’s throughout, but Jaxson Dart and the Rebels made enough plays to win. Suddenly, it seems like a virtual lock that Ole Miss starts 7-0, as the program’s next two games are against Vanderbilt and Auburn.
    • Will Levis is so talented, but he’s a let down. The projected first-round pick fumbled twice yesterday, and also probably wasn’t given enough chances to throw by Mark Stoops and the Kentucky coaching staff. The main issue for the Wildcats remains the offensive line’s inability to get a push upfront — the team averaged just 2.9 yards per rushing attempt yesterday. Kentucky was overranked at No. 7, and they’ll surely drop out of the top 10 after this loss.
  • TCU 55 Oklahoma 24
    • It’s time to at least pay some attention to TCU. At 4-0, the Horned Frogs definitely served notice to the Big 12 yesterday. Best of all? TCU’s defense was pretty stout in this contest. TCU at Kansas next week should be fun.
    • Oklahoma, despite being in year one of the Brent Venables era, has issues as a program. Even after the departures of Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch, the team is still soft, but has, as expected, regressed offensively. Dillon Gabriel has always been overrated as a quarterback, and Sooners fans seem to be realizing that. I don’t think the sky is falling yet in Norman, but Venables better get his program in order before the transition to the SEC.
  • Purdue 20 Minnesota 10
    • I had a feeling Purdue was a bit undervalued heading into this game, but this performance was impressive. Charlie Jones had another nice game, as he’s been freed this year from the shackles of the Iowa offense.
    • The metrics LOVED Minnesota coming into this game. I think that was a combination of the Golden Gopher’s playing absolutely nobody, and squaring off against an overrated Michigan State team. Tanner Morgan was due to lay an egg, and that happened yesterday, as the senior-signal caller was picked off three times. Additionally, Minnesota struggled to run the ball, and that was probably a result of having no Mohamed Ibrahim.
  • Kansas State 37 Texas Tech 28
    • Adrian Martinez shifted zip codes, and he’s suddenly become a much better caretaker of the football. Kansas State isn’t an elite team, but it plays tough defense, and is explosive on offense with Deuce Vaughn and company. It would be huge if the Wildcats took down Iowa State in Ames next week.
  • Illinois 34 Wisconsin 10
    • What Illinois is doing this season has been so unexpected — and impressive. This is a classic Bret Bielema team, controlling the line of scrimmage and playing strong defense. In a wide open Big Ten West, Illinois has life.
    • The Paul Chryst era in Madison may be on life support. The Badgers’ bread and butter, the run game, was disastrous yesterday, tallying just two yards on 24 attempts. If Wisconsin loses at Northwestern next week, sound the alarm.
  • Boston College 34 Louisville 33
    • As a program, the Eagles needed this one badly. A 1-4 start would’ve been a disaster.
    • For Louisville, 2022 has been quite disappointing. Malik Cunningham and the offense have done their job for the most part, but the defense isn’t exactly ACC-caliber.
  • Air Force 13 Navy 10
    • I expected Air Force to win this game by a fair bit more, but a win’s a win. 11-1 is still a realistic possibility for the Falcons.
  • Memphis 24 Temple 3
    • This game was a strange for awhile. Memphis’ solid offense failed to score in the first half. Memphis versus Houston next Friday should be interesting.
    • I know he’s just a freshman, but E.J. Warner probably isn’t the answer at quarterback for Temple.
  • James Madison 40 Texas State 13
    • I love this James Madison team. At 4-0, the Dukes are having a great inaugural season in FBS. North Dakota State, you should be up next.
  • Utah 42 Oregon State 16
    • Utah has been solid this season, but it’s hard to put too much stock into the Utes since they lost to Florida, one of the SEC’s lesser teams. Clark Phillips is one of the nation’s top corners, and should be a first-round pick next April. Utah has UCLA and USC as its next two contests — going 2-0 would be one heck of a statement.
  • East Carolina 48 South Florida 28
    • A nice leap has been made by Holton Ahlers in 2022, as he tossed six touchdowns in this contest. The Pirates won’t compete for the AAC title, but the program is taking steps forward.
  • College Football Playoff Rankings
    • 1. Alabama (5-0)
    • 2. Ohio State (5-0)
    • 3. Georgia (5-0)
    • 4. Clemson (5-0)
    • 5. Michigan (5-0)
    • 6. Oklahoma State (4-0)
