NFL

  • Chargers 19 Broncos 16
    • The Chargers are definitely hampered by injuries. You can see it quite easily. Having Keenan Allen, Rashawn Slater, Corey Linsley, and Joey Bosa out would greatly inhibit any NFL team. Fortunately for Los Angeles, the club still has a healthy Justin Herbert. While Herbert wasn’t great last night, he got some help by two special defensive players: Khalil Mack and Derwin James. To keep pace with Kansas City in the AFC West, the Chargers must take down the Seahawks next week.
    • It’s obvious at this point, but the Broncos are a mess. Nathaniel Hackett may end up being one and done, while Russell Wilson’s performance thus far has been as disappointing as possible. One bright point for Denver? Baron Browning has had a breakout sophomore campaign, as he’s finally playing his best position, which is on the edge. Jets versus Broncos should be interesting next week, and even despite how the 2022 season has unfolded thus far, I still like Denver in that contest.
  • Cardinals receive: Robbie Anderson
  • Panthers receive: 2024 sixth-round pick and 2025 seventh-round pick
    • What is Arizona doing? Sure, A.J. Green has been abysmal as an outside receiver this year, but the Cardinals seem to love handing away draft picks. After all, Anderson isn’t even a good player, either, and DeAndre Hopkins returns this week. This was a waste of draft capital for the Cardinals.
    • Anderson and the Panthers needed a divorce, so it was smart for Carolina to jump on this offer. Next, Carolina should be listening to offers on the likes of Christian McCaffrey and Brian Burns.

NBA

  • Hawks sign De’Andre Hunter to four-year, $90M extension
    • This is a lot of money annually for Hunter, who’s already 24 and has basically been the same player for the first three years of his career. Atlanta will probably be capped out in the coming years, so this won’t cost the team any cap room, but this is an overpay by around $5M per year.
  • Rockets sign Kevin Porter to four-year, $82.5M extension
    • I was shocked by the numbers for this contract at first, but further clarification made this deal more sensible. Houston can get out from under this contract following each year of the deal, which is good for the club, considering Porter’s history of questionable on and off-court antics. Even with the out clauses in the contract, this is an overpay by the Rockets, who seem to be going all-in on a mediocre young core.
  • Trail Blazers sign Nassir Little to four-year, $28M extension
    • Little is a respectable young player. This deal makes sense, and it’ll look even better as the salary cap leaps in future seasons.
