- Cardinals fire head coach Kliff Kingsbury
- Kingsbury was a fine, innovative hire by Arizona that helped pull the team out of an offensive wasteland. The former Texas Tech head coach, along with Kyler Murray, transformed the Cardinals from the league’s worst offense — by far, to a league average unit in one year, and a well above average outfit over the course of a few years. Kingsbury isn’t perfect, though, so there’s a chance for the Cardinals to upgrade their leader at the helm, but the organization needs to avoid another disastrous hire, similar to that of Steve Wilks in 2018. Next season looks a bit bleak for the Cardinals, especially considering Kyler Murray’s recovery from a torn ACL, so this open position isn’t extremely attractive. With that said, the franchise will have a decent amount of cap space, along with the No. 3 overall pick, so a few candidates will surely be interested in coming to the desert.

- Georgia 65, TCU 7
- I had somewhat of a feeling the Bulldogs would pound the Horned Frogs, but a 65-7 result is eye-opening — and alarming. The College Football Playoff selection committee whiffed badly this season, as there was no reason for TCU to receive the No. 3 seed. Public perception led to that, and as a result, Georgia was screwed over in having to face Ohio State in the semifinals. Also alarming? The Bulldogs are now the class of the sport, and they’re going absolutely nowhere anytime soon. Georgia is recruiting at a high level, and as we saw last night, the program outclasses almost everyone athletically, and quite frankly, schematically. Stetson Bennett obviously had an awesome college career, and proved to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country. It’ll be interesting to see how and who Georgia replaces the two-time national champion with, but no matter what, Georgia will be the team to beat in 2023, as well.
- What a great season for TCU. As I mentioned above, the Horned Frogs didn’t deserve a cozy matchup against Michigan (as opposed to facing Georgia), but it was impressive that the program was able to prevail in that contest. I didn’t expect Max Duggan to struggle as much as he did last night, tossing two interceptions, but that’s even more of a testament to Georgia’s stingy defense. TCU may never make it back to the National Championship, but Horned Frogs fans should be proud of their team, even in the shellacking that occurred yesterday.

- Blue Jays sign 1B Brandon Belt to one-year, $9.3M contract
- It’ll be odd not seeing Belt in a Giants uniform. This contract, I think, is a bit too pricey. Belt is capable of producing solid seasons at the dish, but it’s no guarantee, especially with him approaching 35-years-old.

- Marlins sign SP Johnny Cueto to one-year, $8.5M contract
- Miami has a gluttony of starting pitching, so this deal doesn’t make a ton of sense. With that said, Cueto is worth this deal, and if the Marlins can find a way to deal, let’s say, Pablo Lopez, they’ll clear some payroll and eliminate a starting pitching logjam.
