  • Eagle sign QB Jalen Hurts to five-year, $255 million contract extension
    • The Eagles basically had to hand Hurts this extension, so they can’t be knocked too much for it. Still, this is an overpay. Philadelphia had a significant advantage in 2022 because Hurts’ cap hit was just $1.64 million. Starting in 2024, the damage will be an average of $51 million per year. This will obviously strap the Eagles down in terms of roster building, as their star quarterback will no longer be on a bargain bin deal. The good news is Hurts is already a talented signal-caller, and theoretically should continue to improve, but Philadelphia’s edge in terms of the salary cap will be over after this coming season.

  • Five-star TE Landen Thomas commits to Florida State
    • Thomas, the No. 24 player for 2024, flipped his commitment from Georgia to the Seminoles. It’s rare to see Georgia, the program that recruits tight ends the best, lose a key target at the position, but Mike Norvell is surely happy to have 2024’s top tight end aboard.
