Pacers sign PG Tyrese Haliburton to five-year, $206 million contract extension
No surprise here. Haliburton is Indiana’s franchise player, so the club rightfully inked the guard to this max extension, which includes escalators that could make it worth up to $260 million over five years. That’s a lot of money, but Haliburton will be well worth it if he reaches the milestones that force this contract to go up in value. Even if this deal doesn’t reach $260 million, there’s no reason to believe Haliburton’s play will regress, so it’s smart of the Pacers to bet on the guard and his future.

Grizzlies sign SG Desmond Bane to five-year, $207 million contract extension
This looks like a lot of money, but on the surface, Bane is probably worth it. The 25-year-old has become an ideal prototype on the wing — an athletic shooter that can also defend and create off the dribble. Players like Bane are difficult to find, but it’s hard not to think that the Bane, Ja Morant, and Jaren Jackson Jr. trio needs to improve for Memphis to truly be a championship contender. Regardless, the Grizzlies almost had to give Bane this deal, so it’s hard to fault the franchise even if Bane doesn’t get any better.
