MLB

Phillies 8, Nationals 4

Kyle Schwarber hits some of the prettiest home runs you’ll see. The ball just flies off his bat like a supernova. In this game, Schwarber hit home run Nos. 29 and 30, and it feels like the 62-52 Phillies are in solid shape to grab an NL wild card spot. There’s plenty of time left in the season, though.

Marlins 3, Reds 2

The Marlins made some fairly aggressive moves at the trade deadline, but up until last night, the moves hadn’t paid off. In this game for Miami, new closer David Robertson was key, as he struck out two Reds in the ninth inning and recorded his 16th save of the season.

Tigers 6, Twins 0

I’m sure that plenty of National League contenders are happy that Eduardo Rodriguez refused to waive his no-trade clause to join the Dodgers. Detroit’s ace has been dependable all season, and was more than that last night, pitching seven scoreless frames. Rodriguez’s ERA is now 2.75. That’ll play.
