49ers sign EDGE Nick Bosa to five-year, $170 million contract extension

This is a good move by the 49ers based on the simple facts that this deal needed to get done for Bosa to report and that the edge rusher is one of the best players in the NFL, period. $34 million per year is a lot of money, though, and easily eclipses the average annual value of Aaron Donald’s last contract ($31.7 million). Bosa should be worth it, especially for a San Francisco team that has championship aspirations.

Mariners 8, Reds 4

The ball was flying out of Great American Ballpark last night due to the thin, hot air, and the Mariners took full advantage. J.P. Crawford, Mike Ford and Cal Raleigh all hit long balls for Seattle, a team that’s in solid position to get to the postseason in back-to-back years.

I’m not sure the Reds can afford to be trotting out Lyon Richardson to make starts during a heated wild card race. Last night, Richardson was tagged for seven earned runs in just 4 2/3 innings.
