Eagles receive: Kevin Byard
Titans receive: Terrell Edmonds, a 2024 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick

The Eagles are yet again Super Bowl contenders, so adding the talented Byard will only enhance the team’s championship odds. The cost to acquire the two-time first-team All-Pro is surprisingly low, but Philadelphia has found incredible value on numerous transactions in recent years.

At 2-4, the Titans have stalled out, and are making the right move for the long-term health of the organization. It would’ve been more ideal for Tennessee if it received more in return for a franchise stalwart like Byard, but this isn’t an awful trade by any means.

Timberwolves sign PF Jaden McDaniels to a five-year, $136 million contract extension

McDaniels averaged 12.1 points per game last season, so he’s not exactly limited on that end, but this is still a lot of money for a player with McDaniels’ offensive capabilities. Fortunately for Minnesota, the forward is one of the association’s very best defenders, especially on the wing. Another thing working to the Timberwolves’ advantage? The organization will likely be capped out in the near future, so signing McDaniels to this extension won’t prohibit Minnesota from chasing high-priced free agents. The Timberwolves overpaid here, but keeping the talented power forward around is a good thing.

Mavericks sign SG Josh Green to a three-year, $41 million contract extension

This is borderline stunning value for Dallas. Green emerged in a big way last season, and the next step for the wing will be to increase his usage. Even if the 22-year-old doesn’t reach his offensive potential, he’ll still be a useful two-way talent for the Mavericks.

Magic sign PG Cole Anthony to a three-year, $39 million contract extension

At 23, Anthony is already a solid player, but with Anthony Black, Jalen Suggs and Markelle Fultz also in tow, the Magic have a logjam in the backcourt. Despite that, Anthony should be easily tradeable with this contract, so the Magic are getting good value here.

Pacers sign SF Aaron Nesmith to a three-year, $33 million contract extension

Nesmith needs to improve, at least slightly, for this extension to be good value for the Pacers. At 24 years old, there’s a solid possibility that happens, especially considering that the wing caught fire from three-point range late last season. If Nesmith doesn’t get better, Indiana will come to regret shelling out this money to a player slightly above replacement level.

Merrimack and Sacred Heart to move from the NEC to the MAAC in 2024

Moving to a stronger and higher revenue conference is always a win for a school, so administrators at Merrimack and Sacred Heart should be thrilled. For the MAAC, this move doesn’t make a ton of sense. It’s quite likely the two programs will be bottom feeders most years in the league.
