Giants receive: Robbie Ray
Mariners receive: Mitch Haniger and Anthony DeSclafani

This trade is fairly even from a monetary perspective, but the Giants are obviously getting the best player in the deal in Ray, the 2021 AL Cy Young winner. 2023 was a lost season for the 32-year-old, and it’s unlikely Ray will return to peak form again, but he should still bolster San Francisco’s rotation.

I occasionally feel as if some of my fantasy football league mates want to trade just to trade, and for no other reason at all. I feel the same way about Jerry Dipoto. Seattle’s president of baseball operations has a tendency to overtrade, and makes some unnecessary transactions. This move qualifies as unnecessary, as it doesn’t make his team better.
