Heat to sign PG Delon Wright to one-year contract

This pact is contingent on Wright, recently bought out by the Wizards, clearing waivers. The 31-year-old isn’t a high-end bench guard anymore, but he should still help Miami, especially with his defense.

Phillies sign 2B Whit Merrifield to one-year, $8 million contract

Even at 35, Merrifield can still contribute in a variety ways, but this is a high price for a player that likely won’t play every day for the Phillies. For Philadelphia, money might not be much an object though, as the Phillies are now slated to have an opening day payroll of $246 million.
