Buccaneers sign WR Mike Evans to two-year, $52 million contract
Evans, even at 30, is arguably the league’s most consistent wide receiver, so it makes sense that Tampa Bay is willing to pay him $26 million per year. A sharp decline is always possible, but if the Buccaneers can get Baker Mayfield back, Evans should have a chance to match his 1,255-yard output from 2023.

C Jason Kelce retires
Kelce has long been an anchor on an elite Eagles offensive line, and his presence in the middle will obviously be missed. With six First-team All-Pro honors, the center should find himself in Canton at some point within the next 10 years.
NBA
Raptors sign C Kelly Olynyk to two-year, $26.25 contract extension
I’m scratching my head at this one. Olynyk is a fine rotation-caliber big, but he turns 33 in April and doesn’t fit the Raptors’ timeline. Toronto should be moving away from players like Olynyk and instead be taking stabs at younger players with more upside, but perhaps the Raptors value Olynyk’s floor spacing and his Canadian heritage.

MLB
Phillies sign SP Zack Wheeler to three-year, $126 million contract extension
This extension will start in 2025, and it’s a lot per year, even for a pitcher of Wheeler’s caliber. The 33-year-old has durability and consistency on his side, and surely was negotiating from a position of strength given the Phillies want to keep their current core together. If Philadelphia captures its first World Series title since 2008 with its core, all the money its spent will be well worth it, but things could get ugly with an aging and expensive roster.

3B Josh Donaldson retires
Donaldson hasn’t been even close to his peak self since 2021, so it’s no surprise he’s hanging up his cleats. The Hall of Fame won’t ever come calling for Donaldson, but his five-year peak from 2013-2017 was elite and good enough for him to be considered one of the best position players in baseball — a time in which the sport was lacking stars at the plate.
