Panthers sign DT Derrick Brown to four-year, $96 million contract extension

Most of the time a good player signs an extension, it either tops the market at the player’s position or comes close to it. That’s the case here with Brown, and the 25-year-old run stuffer should continue to improve, making this a wise investment for Carolina. In 2024, the dominant interior defender registered 103 tackles — an unheard of total for a defensive tackle.

Charlotte should be feeling great about its selection of Brandon Miller at No. 2 overall last June. The rookie forward has shown steady progression throughout the season, and performances like the one he had in this game — 32 points on 11-for-13 from the floor — will continue to occur.

Pacers 126, Thunder 112

The Pacers have won six of 10, but Indiana’s reliance on pace, three-point variance, and role player contributions isn’t likely to translate to the playoffs. Good teams will easily scheme several of Indiana’s bench players out of a series, so more will be needed from Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam. In 36 minutes, Haliburton totaled just eight points yesterday.

Cornell promotes Jon Jaques to head coach

Cornell is probably making the right call here. Jaques has been around the program for well over a decade and should be able to continue on what Brian Earl built in Ithaca.
