Eagles sign WR DeVonta Smith to three-year, $75 million contract extension

The going rate for great receivers is higher than this, and while Smith isn’t great — yet — he should end up a bargain on this deal, especially since it doesn’t kick in until 2026. The 25-year-old weapon totaled 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

Colts sign DT DeForest Buckner to two-year, $46 million contract extension

This extension follows a theme for Indianapolis this offseason: locking up talent already on the team. Only time will tell if the Colts’ contentment with their current roster is reasonable, but this rate for Buckner is fair, even with him on the wrong side of 30.

NBA

Suns sign SG Grayson Allen to four-year, $70 million contract extension

Phoenix is scheduled to be deep into the luxury tax next season, but that’s an issue for ownership. Extending Allen at this amount is a bargain, as the guard has taken a huge leap in efficiency since last season. If Allen continues to shoot over 46 percent from three, it’s hard to imagine the Suns having any regrets regarding this contract.

MLB

Guardians 6, Red Sox 0

The Guardians entered 2024 with plenty of questions, particularly on offense. After an 11-5 start, some of those concerns have lessened, and it appears Cleveland may have some staying power at the top of the AL Central. Stephen Vogt’s bullpen is outstanding, and yesterday was no different, as Tim Herrin, Nick Sandlin, and Eli Morgan contributed to the shutout.
