Buccaneers sign S Antoine Winfield Jr. to four-year, $84.1 million contract extension

This extension makes Winfield Jr. the highest-paid defensive back in league history, and while the 25-year-old is a phenomenal player, this deal is a bit rich, especially for a safety. The market for the position is down, as opposed to wide receiver and edge rusher, and the price for the Tampa Bay safety is now out of range compared to his cohorts. In the Buccaneers’ defense, the organization has done a good job lately in locking up its franchise cornerstones, and Winfield Jr. is certainly one of them.

Utah State transfer PF Great Osobor commits to Washington

On the surface, this is a great add for the Huskies. Osobor took a huge leap in 2024, seeing his scoring increase from 10.1 to 17.7 points per game while facing tougher competition. The big man should boost Washington’s prospects for the upcoming season in a big way. To entice Osobor, the Huskies handed him $2 million. NIL money, of course, is uncapped and in essence infinite, but each program is obviously hamstrung to some degree and not capable of handing out massive bags of cash to every player, so this addition is questionable in terms of resource allocation, not roster fit.
