Chiefs sign WR Mecole Hardman to one-year contract
Monetary details for this contract weren’t released, but I’m guessing it’s a cheap deal. Kansas City, with Rashee Rice’s legal issues and Marquise Brown being a new addition, has a lot of uncertainty at wide receiver, so it makes sense for the franchise to bring back a familiar face. Hardman wasn’t productive in 2023 — he recorded just 124 receiving yards — but he, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore are the only wideouts on the roster with a material amount of experience playing with Patrick Mahomes.

Blue Jays 6, Orioles 5
There were fair concerns regarding Vladimir Guerrero Jr. following a down 2023 and a rough April, but those worries have been quelled by the slugger over the past five-plus weeks. The first baseman was slashing just .229/.331/.347 at the end of April, but after going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in this game, Guerrero Jr.’s slash line is up to .295/.388/.426.
Royals 4, Guardians 3
The Guardians have been so good in one-run games this year — and really for a couple seasons now — that it catches the eye when Cleveland drops a close one. Hunter Gaddis has been effective out of the bullpen for the Guardians thus far, but he allowed the go-ahead run in this contest.
Mariners 3, Athletics 0
Seattle’s starting pitchers have done their part in making Scott Servais’ job easier. Seemingly game after game, a Mariners’ starter turns in a quality start. In this game, it was Bryan Woo’s six scoreless frames. It’ll be hard for Texas to catch Seattle if the 36-28 Mariners continue to keep opposing lineups at bay.
The Athletics, given their lack of talent, need as many young players as possible to hit. As a rookie last season, Zack Gelof looked like a keeper, but he’s regressed in 2024. Following a 0-for-3 performance yesterday, Gelof is slashing a paltry .189/.250/.325. Oakland should continue to give the second baseman a runway to playing time, but Gelof needs to improve.
