This week is the quietest of the year on the sports calendar — a time to refresh and peak ahead to what’s to come.

NBA Summer League is ongoing, but there’s not a ton that can be gathered from the event. Most happenings from Las Vegas don’t translate to the real thing.

Olympic basketball and the current USA showcases have more of my attention. The Americans are the prohibitive favorite to capture gold, but they’ll probably be tested. It would be a bad look for the USA if they lost a game, whether it be in the group stage, or even worse, the knockout stage.

About a week into the Olympics, the NFL preseason will begin. I can’t wait for football — it’s my favorite sport — but the preseason isn’t everything to me. I enjoy following the games and reading training camp reports, but I normally save my full investment for the real games.

My posts haven’t always been as a frequent, long, or detailed as I would hope. I’m working on that — to deliver more of my thoughts to you. We have a lot of fun ahead of us — football, basketball and baseball. I’m looking forward to it.
