It’s nice to have football back, isn’t it? Even if it’s just the Hall of Fame Game.

Buccaneers sign OT Tristan Wirfs to five-year, $140.6 million contract extension

Wirfs isn’t quite the NFL’s best tackle — that honor goes to either Penei Sewell or Trent Williams — but the 25-year-old basically had the right to name his number for this deal. In the end, that’s what Wirfs did, inking an extension that makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

The Iowa product is a two-time All-Pro that will continue to anchor the Buccaneers’ offensive line for years to come. The question, however, is who Wirfs will be protecting for the duration of this contract. Will it be Baker Mayfield, or will Tampa Bay bottom out at some point and select a signal-caller high in the draft? The roster is likely too good for that, but we’ll see.

Bucks sign C Anzejs Pasecniks to two-way contract

This is a bit of an off-the-wall signing, as Pasecniks is already 28 and has played in Europe the last three seasons. The center appeared in 28 games with the Wizards in 2020 and 2021, averaging 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Outside of signing Gary Trent Jr. for the minimum, Milwaukee has had a strange offseason.
