Broncos sign CB Pat Surtain II to four-year, $96 million contract extension
Surtain has a case for being the league’s best corner, so him shattering the contractual ceiling for the position isn’t surprising. With a rookie quarterback in Bo Nix, Denver will lean on its defense to win games, and that starts with Surtain, a two-time Pro Bowler. The 24-year-old recorded 69 tackles and one interception last season. As great as he is now, Surtain’s best days are ahead of him.

Commanders sign G Sam to four-year, $74 million contract extension
Cosmi is an excellent guard — a true road grader in the running game — that will be valuable in protecting Washington’s top investment, Jayden Daniels. The 25-year-old hasn’t earned any accolades in the NFL yet, but they’ll come, especially if the Commanders become a winning organization under Dan Quinn. This is a good deal for Washington in securing a top guard at slightly under market value.

Texans sign QB Davis Mills to one-year, $5 million contract extension
Continuity is important in the NFL, especially at the quarterback position. The Texans know that, and now Houston will have Mills backing up C.J. Stroud for at least the next two seasons. Mills isn’t a starting-caliber signal-caller — that was most obvious in 2022 when he threw 15 interceptions and posted a 35.0 QBR — but he’s a solid young backup.
