North Carolina fires head coach Mack Brown

For North Carolina to move forward as a program, this had to happen. Brown did decent work in his second tenure with the Tar Heels, compiling a 44-32 mark, but progress wasn’t being made. This firing shouldn’t take away anything Brown accomplished, though, as the head coach won a national championship and finished 158-48 while leading Texas.

The Tar Heels aren’t in a bad spot by any means, but they need to nail this head coaching hire.

Rice hires Scott Abell as head coach

Rice had to take a shot, right? Abell’s innovative offense should bring some life to an Owls program that hasn’t won 10 games since 2013. Still, Rice will almost always struggle to compete in the AAC, given its academic standards and lack of football prestige.
