Broncos sign OT Garett Bolles to four-year, $82 million contract extension

Bolles is one of the better left tackles in the league, but at 32, I fear Denver is paying for past — not future — performance with this extension. Peaking in 2020 with a second-team All-Pro nod, Bolles is a standout pass blocker, but he’ll be 36 years old when this deal expires. I wouldn’t bet on him avoiding regression prior to that expiration date.

UNLV hires Dan Mullen as head coach

Well, this was unforeseen. Mullen getting back into coaching — he seemed to have the itch as an ESPN analyst to patrol the sidelines again — isn’t surprising, but that he’s headed to UNLV certainly is. The 52-year-old has extensive experience in the SEC, so it’ll be interesting to watch how he fares out west with a no longer dormant UNLV program. There will be no patience for a rebuild in Las Vegas; Mullen needs to deliver immediate results.
