Lions RB David Montgomery out indefinitely with torn MCL
The Lions are getting ravaged by injuries, more so than any contender in a long time. It’s becoming harder and harder to envision Detroit surviving deep in the postseason with so much attrition, but perhaps the team is talented enough to overcome it.
This week, in particular, weakened the Lions’ roster. Detroit knew it lost Alim McNeill and Carlton Davis to long-term injuries on Sunday, but this Montgomery news is unexpected, given he played a high amount of snaps in the loss to the Bills. Detroit’s backfield has been all Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs this season, so it’s a bit of a mystery as to who will step in as the franchise’s No. 2 tailback. Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki are the most likely candidates.
Montgomery finishes the 2024 regular season with 775 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.
