Orioles sign SP Charlie Morton to one-year, $15 million contract

The Orioles’ inexperienced rotation needed stability, and Morton, 41, certainly offers it. Plenty of it, in fact, as the right-hander hasn’t started fewer than 30 games in a full season since 2017. That’s great reliability, but this isn’t a great contract. For starters, Morton went 8-10 with a 4.19 ERA in 2024. Those are solid marks, but Baltimore could’ve done better at this price point. This pact does, however, fill a need for a potential contender, so it’s not a preposterous deal or anything.

Dodgers sign 2B Hyeseong Kim to three-year, $12.5 million contract

The Dodgers have absolutely cornered the market on Japanese imports, and Kim is just the latest addition. The utility man doesn’t have the name recognition or talent of Shohei Ohtani or Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but he projects as useful piece on Los Angeles’ 26-man roster. Kim has a two-year option for 2028-29, which could push this contract to $22 million.
