2025 five-star SG Alijah Arenas commits to USC

First-year head coach Eric Musselman needed a jolt to get his newest program up and running, so why not turn to a familiar source? Arenas, of course, is the son of Gilbert Arenas, who played briefly for Musselman with the Golden State Warriors. It’s no certainty that Alijah’s basketball career will go as well as Gilbert’s, but this is a huge get for the Trojans.

Blue Jays sign SP Max Scherzer to one-year, $15.5 million contract

Toronto is having an active January, and adding Scherzer is its latest move. This is a fair price point for team and player, although the 40-year-old aging any further — or turning back the clock a year or two — would change matters greatly. For now, though, it’s reasonable to pencil in Scherzer as a mid-tier starter with health risks.
