76ers receive: SG Quentin Grimes and 2025 second-round pick

Mavericks receive: SF Caleb Martin

Following the beyond-puzzling Luka Doncic trade, Dallas is at again. This time, however, the Mavericks made out well. For starters, Grimes’ restricted free agency looms, and moving him for Martin, under team control for at least the next three seasons, is sensible. The 29-year-old should be a valuable rotation piece for Dallas.

The 76ers’ side of this deal, on the other hand, is fairly questionable. Grimes, 24, offers more upside than Martin, but Philadelphia will have to pay the swingman this summer for this deal to present value. That’ll prove costly. Grimes will be a sought-after restricted free agent, presumably with numerous suitors. The second-round selection received by the 76ers offsets some of the risk of this deal.

Yankees sign RP Tim Hill to one-year, $2.85 million contract

It would be wrong to suggest that Hill’s been a reliable reliever over the course of his career, but 2024 offered a breakout for the 34-year-old. Over 35 appearances, Hill posted a 2.05 ERA, making him a key bullpen piece for the Yankees. Wisely, New York is bringing him back for another go around at a fair price.
