Bills sign LB Terrel Bernard to four-year, $50 million contract extension

Normally, extending players on rookie deals is good business — a tool used by smart franchises to keep continuity and young talent around. However, I’m not a fan of this extension. Although he posted 104 tackles last season, Bernard regressed from his 2023 form. The Bills would’ve been better off waiting one more year before deciding whether to retain the linebacker for the long haul.

Lions sign LB Derrick Barnes to three-year, $25.5 million contract extension

Barnes is a fine player — a sure tackler capable of starting on one of the league’s best teams. This extension, however, is a poor use of resources. In addition to Barnes, Detroit already has Jack Campbell, Alex Anzalone, and Malcolm Rodriguez at linebacker. That’s already a formidable trio, so paying Barnes a lofty sum isn’t necessary.
