Drake hires Eric Henderson as head coach
The Drake job has become a revolving door of sorts in recent years, and that’s as bad as it gets for program stability. Darian DeVries departing for West Virginia last year was expected, but losing Ben McCollum after just one season — a stellar one, at that — wasn’t the plan.
Hiring Henderson away from South Dakota State gives the Bulldogs a chance to keep their success going. Compiling a 129-60 record in Brookings, Henderson has built a reputation as one of the better mid-major head coaches, making him a good fit for Drake. Of course, matching the achievements of DeVries and McCollum won’t be easy, but Drake has become the premier program in the Missouri Valley, so the resources will be there for Henderson to succeed.
