Grizzlies fire head coach Taylor Jenkins

This was surprising, even to type. There has to be more to this story, right? Whether there is or isn’t, the Grizzlies made this move sitting in fifth place in the West at 44-29. It’s understandable to feel this particular team has maxed out and is in need of a shakeup, but firing Jenkins a few weeks before the playoffs feels impulsive, at best.

Now, Memphis will have to navigate the rest of the season with a new leader. Of course, that person will come from Jenkins’ staff, but this is seismic move that could’ve easily waited until the franchise’s season ended.

Jenkins will surely be a sought-after candidate for a number of head coaching jobs this summer.
