Kings fire general manager Monte McNair
This is being framed as a mutual parting of ways, and in this case, I believe it was. Still, the key component of mutual decisions is that both sides wanted it to happen. That, of course, means that the Kings wanted McNair gone — that’s a firing in my book.
McNair was the architect of the some of the best Kings teams since the mid-2000s, culminating in him winning NBA Executive of the Year in 2023. Things change fast in sports, however, and the situation in Sacramento has gotten worse and worse, seemingly by the day, since then. I can’t fault either side too much for wanting to move on.

Kings hire Scott Perry as general manager
That was fast. Sacramento dismissed Monte McNair late in the night yesterday, and the franchise turned around and hired Perry, just 12 hours later. I’ll say it one last time — the reported mutual parting was a sham. There’s zero chance the Kings would’ve hired Perry so quickly if McNair’s departure was on his terms. That’s enough of that, though.
Anyway, back to Perry. Interestingly enough, he served as an executive with the Kings back in 2017, prior to accepting the Knicks’ general manager position. Time is a flat circle, so Perry is heading back to Sacramento, where he’ll have plenty of tough decisions to make.
