Ravens sign CB Jaire Alexander to one-year, $4 million contract

It’s somewhat normal for players to be available at a discount after being released, but this deal is beyond a discount; it’s highway robbery. Alexander isn’t particularly close to the player he was in 2020 or even 2022, but at 28, he’s still a good starting corner. However, his health is an issue, as he’s played in just seven contests in each of the past two seasons.

The fit here is interesting. The Ravens are loaded at cornerback, a potential indicator that they’re not expecting the world from Alexander. Presumably, the two-time All-Pro will supplant Chidobe Awuzie in the starting lineup, landing him alongside Nate Wiggins and Marlon Humphrey as the starting corners. That’s no guarantee, though, as Awuzie has a solid track record and Alexander will be playing on a bargain deal.

No matter how the rotation at the position shakes out, Baltimore is fully locked and loaded for another run this year. Last year’s playoff defeat versus Buffalo was heartbreaking, but the team should be better equipped this time around. It certainly helps when players like Alexander are willing to sign for just $4 million per year.
