Jets sign WR Garrett Wilson to four-year, $130 million contract extension

Investing in great players is great business, and it’s nice to see the Jets — under a new regime — complete this agreement. Even this summer, this pact wasn’t a sure thing to come to fruition. Last season, the partnership between New York and Wilson bordered on contentious, as the star wideout wasn’t featured in the offense to the degree he should’ve been.

However, a new era is underway in Florham Park. It’s one in which Wilson should shine. Reunited with his college quarterback, Justin Fields, Wilson has reassumed his status as the face of the Jets offense. In a perfect world, the 24-year-old’s production explodes this season, as he’s hovered around 1,100 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons.

If Wilson doesn’t take the next step, that could be a problem, but contract extensions are about what a player will do, not what they’ve already done. Betting on the Ohio State product is as good a bet a franchise can make, and I like the odds of Wilson delivering on the value of this pact.

Louisiana Tech to leave Conference USA and join Sun Belt in 2026

This move could happen later than 2026, as the final details of the exit are still being finalized.

The Sun Belt has seen its prestige soar in recent years, burgeoning into one of the best group of five conferences. That rise, coupled with continued momentum, made the league attractive as it sought out a 14th member to replace Texas State. It would’ve made sense for the Sun Belt to aim high and target a program from the American.

Maybe the league looked that way. Maybe the league looked at the MAC. In the end, however, the Sun Belt opted for Louisiana Tech, a geographical addition more than anything. There’s nothing wrong with that. After all, collegiate conferences are now based on location less than ever, so it’s good to see a league prioritize regional rivalries. On the other hand, the Bulldogs certainly won’t make the Sun Belt more competitive. We could wind up looking at this as a missed opportunity.
