Eagles receive:
QB Sam Howell
2026 sixth-round pick

Vikings receive:
2026 fifth-round pick
2027 seventh-round pick

There was an additional piece of business that followed this transaction. The Vikings, to replace Howell, signed Carson Wentz to assume their backup quarterback role.

This is a confusing move by the Eagles. Second-string signal-caller Tanner McKee is banged up, but that doesn’t warrant trading draft capital for Howell. After all, Howell struggled mightily in the preseason, and hasn’t shown much over the first three seasons of his career. He’s probably an upgrade over Kyle McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, but trading a fifth rounder for a third-string passer is a poor use of resources.

Howell has 22 career touchdowns through the air and 23 interceptions.

The Vikings, however, made out like bandits. Wentz is an upgrade over Howell, and the franchise improved its draft assets. Minnesota is a well-run organization and this trade was just another example of that.

Eagles Grade: D+

Vikings Grade: A
