Texans sign QB Davis Mills to one-year, $7 million contract extension
Mills is one of the better — and younger — backup quarterbacks in the NFL, and now he’ll be paid as such. The 2021 third-round selection was miscast and overextended as a starter in his first two seasons, but he’s settled in nicely as C.J. Stroud’s backup. Securing Mills through the 2026 campaign is good business.
Mills posted 212 passing yards in four games last year.

UC San Diego to leave Big West and join WCC in 2027
UC San Diego has been a fast-rising program, entering just its sixth season in Division I. The Big West is a solid league, but the WCC will present more of a test, as the Tritons will serve as the long-term replacement for Gonzaga.
