Browns sign EDGE Alex Wright to three-year, $33 million contract extension
Timing is everything. Wright, previously an impending free agent, was average at best over his first three seasons. As a 2022 third-round selection, his performance was underwhelming. The 25-year-old’s run defense has always been stout, but six sacks in three years wasn’t enough. 2025, however has been a different story for the improved Wright.
Playing across from Myles Garrett is one of the easier jobs in the NFL, but Wright has performed well in the role. The Browns’ defense is one of the league’s best, and Wright’s soundness versus the run is a vital reason why. Of course, his three sacks have helped, too.
In almost every case, NFL teams should do what they can to secure their young talent. I’m somewhat surprised Cleveland was able to retain Wright at this price, so kudos to Andrew Berry.
