Toledo hires Mike Jacobs as head coach

Jacobs, coming to Toledo after two seasons as Mercer’s head coach, will have big shoes to fill. Jason Candle is off to Connecticut, but the expectations for the Rockets aren’t going anywhere. Toledo hasn’t had a losing season since 2009, and Jacobs will be tasked with continuing that run.

His background should help. The 46-year-old hails from Ohio, and played along the offensive line for Ohio State. That playing experience, along with a vast coaching resume, gives him the requisite credentials to succeed in this job.

What happens from here, however, is only known by fate. Jacobs will only receive acclaim if he keeps the Rockets among the top programs in the MAC — and wins a few conference championships along the way.
