NFL

Jets receive:
QB Geno Smith
2026 seventh-round pick (228)

Raiders receive:
2026 sixth-round pick (208)

This was the biggest Raiders-related headline for most of yesterday. That was, of course, until the Ravens backed out of the Maxx Crosby trade. Baltimore’s decision was reportedly due to uncovered medical information, which makes sense. Regardless, the rescinded deal and whatever has followed and will follow are sure to have seismic implications.

Returning to the transaction at hand, Las Vegas should feel a lot better about this outcome — assuming it goes through when the new league year begins at 4:00 p.m. ET today. The Raiders were set to release Smith, so it seems the Jets inquired about the quarterback, hoping to jump his market. The price was minimal, but it’s a win for Las Vegas nonetheless. After all, Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa were simply cut with no compensation sent to their former teams. The Raiders at least received something.

The Jets didn’t give much for Smith, but it doesn’t mean they won, too. Smith, selected in the second round in 2013 by New York, had a frustrating initial stint with the franchise, spanning four seasons. Those struggles surely haven’t been forgotten by the fan base, making the decision to require the signal-caller a bit curious.
