- Bills sign TE Dawson Knox to four-year, $53.6M extension
- Knox is a nice player, but this deal makes him one of football’s highest paid tight ends. I’m not sure he deserves that. Regardless, if Josh Allen enjoys having the 25-year-old as a weapon, then so be it.
MLB
- Rockies 8 Brewers 4
- It seems as if Milwaukee’s playoff hopes slip even further with each passing day. The Brewers have normally banked on having good pitching, but that obviously falls apart when the typically reliable Eric Lauer allows seven earned runs.
- Braves 7 Athletics 3
- Atlanta obviously has some great veterans, but it’s been amazing to witness how many rookies have contributed to the team’s success thus far. It’s been well-documented how impactful Spencer Strider, yesterday’s starter, and Michael Harris have been, but 21-year-old Vaughn Grissom has joined the party. Grissom is slashing .347/.398/.558. The Braves will take down the Dodgers in October if this magic continues.
- Tigers 5 Angels 4
- This game was a perfect microcosm of what the Angels are — and have been, for so long. Stars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani both hit home runs in this contest, but Los Angeles lost. Ohtani has just one year remaining on his deal after this campaign, but Trout is locked in through 2030. Trout will be handsomely paid over the years, but I wonder if frustration over losing will boil over at some point.
- Rays 1 Red Sox 0
- I bet there’s plenty of baseball fans that wonder how the Rays, despite a minuscule payroll, find success year after year. The reasons, to me, aren’t completely known, but the Rays used five pitchers yesterday, all of them having ERAs 2.68 or lower. That helps.
- Phillies 4 Marlins 3
- The Marlins have regressed to the mean this season. After a successful 2020, Miami struggled last year, and has gotten ever worse in 2022. This isn’t surprising. The Marlins have some solid pitchers, but the club’s lineup is dreadful.
- Blue Jays 4 Orioles 1
- The Orioles have been a nice story this season, but Toronto is on another level. The Blue Jays have a great lineup, and in this game, tossed Alek Manoah and Jordan Romano onto the mound. That’s a tough combination for a team like the Orioles to overcome.
- Yankees 7 Twins 1
- Gerrit Cole, at least to some degree, has had a rocky year, but the hurler is still a great talent. Look no further than this game. Cole struck out 14 Twins, and is still easily capable of carrying a playoff rotation.
