Jets sign C Josh Myers to two-year, $11 million contract extension

Not much has gone right for the Jets this season. The quarterback position has been in flux. The pass catchers have been inconsistent. The defense has been gashed. The offensive line, however, has been healthy and somewhat effective. For New York, that’s a win.

The Jets snagged Myers off the bargain bin in the offseason, securing him to a one-year, $2 million contract. He hasn’t performed particularly well, but continuity across the offensive front is key, so New York is keeping the veteran around. Myers will presumably be snapping the ball to a new signal-caller in 2026, and him and his blocking mates will be tasked with protecting yet another new passer.

What could go wrong? For the Jets, pretty much anything.

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to step down and be replaced by Morgan Scalley

Whittingham’s status has been up in the air for several years now, so this news isn’t exactly shocking. Regardless, Scalley will have big shoes to fill.

Last July, Scalley, the Utes’ defensive coordinator, was named head-coach-in-waiting — another sign that Whittingham’s time with the program was winding down. He’ll take over after Utah’s bowl game, and be tasked with keeping the Utes at or near the top of the Big 12.

Washington State hires Kirby Moore as head

Washington State has been a revolving door of sorts for both head coaches and quarterbacks in recent years. That’s far from ideal for any program, but it makes sense that the Cougars are in this position. Washington State was left for dead by most of the Pac-12, demoting the Cougars to mid-major status. That obviously damaged the program’s prestige, making it a less desirable spot for coaches and players alike. The hope, of course, is that nailing a hire like Moore restores the program’s image as it transitions to the (new) Pac-12.

Moore, previously Missouri’s offensive coordinator, holds some roots in the Pacific Northwest. His background is primarily wide-receiver focused, and Washington State will certainly ask him to lean on that expertise. Moore will be a first-time head coach, so it’s anyone’s guess as to how he’ll fare in this tricky job.

Blue Jays receive:
RP Chase Lee

Tigers receive:
RP Johan Simon

This transaction is nothing more than a swap on the margins.

Detroit needed 40-man roster spot for Kyle Finnegan, so shipping out Lee creates that space. He’ll be replaced in the organization by Simon, a fast-rising 24-year-old that isn’t too far away from a big-league cup of coffee.

In Toronto, Lee should vie for a bullpen spot. If he comes up short, he still has minor-league options, so the Blue Jays wouldn’t lose him.
