Pacers sign PF Larry Nance Jr. to one-year, $4 million contract
Nance, 33, signed with the Cavaliers last offseason to mild fanfare. The veteran’s second stint with Cleveland didn’t go completely according to plan, however. Playing in just 35 games, Nance posted career lows in points, rebounds and true shooting percentage. It was fair to assume the big man’s career was over.
Not so fast. Nance has a solid track record, so it’s reasonable to assume he has a bit left in the tank. If so, he’ll have the opportunity to prove it with the Pacers. Indiana’s center rotation is mostly inexperienced behind Ivica Zubac, consisting of Jay Huff and Micah Potter. Both players are 28, but aren’t battle-tested like Nance.
The most likely scenario for Indiana is Nance proving washed and settling in a benchwarmer role. His athleticism has waned, and he offered minimal impact as a shooter last season for Cleveland. There’s still miniscule value in Nance, but the Pacers shouldn’t expect much except rally towels and high fives.
Nance posted 3.7 points and 2.7 rebounds per game last year.
