Texans sign LB Azeez Al-Shaair to three-year, $54 million contract extension

The Texans have poured extensive resources into their already dominant defense. Two weeks ago, Houston inked superstar edge rusher Will Anderson to a $150 million extension. The organization followed by drafting defensive tackle Kayden McDonald — a borderline first-round prospect — in the second round. Now, the Texans are committing to Al-Shaair for the long haul.

2025 was the peak of Al-Shaair’s career. In a banner year for Houston’s defense, the linebacker was the leader, recording 103 tackles and two interceptions. For his work, Al-Shaair earned a trip to his first Pro Bowl.

Look for the excellence to continue — both for the Texans’ defense and Al-Shaair. It’ll be needed, too, as the AFC South is a division on the rise. Competency isn’t guaranteed from Houston’s offense, either, so a top-five defense might be needed to lift the Texans back to the postseason.
